Welcome!

Hyytiälä Forestry Field Station is part of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the Helsinki University. The object of the station is to enable both teaching and research at field conditions.

The station also provides facilities for arrangement of meetings and seminars as well as possibilities for different leisure activities.

Topical at the Moment

The station will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2010.

One Finnish and two (1, 2) Nordic Centers of Excellence operate at the SMEAR II-station, which is also one of the Finnish sites planned to participate in the European Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) . ICOS is intended for the measurement of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and ecosystems.

Intensive measurements of greenhousegas-balance is going on nearby Siikaneva mire. The project is a collaboration of departments of Forest Ecology and Physical Sciences of University of Helsinki with the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

The long-term sample plots of Hyytiälä station are being utilised by researchers at the Department of Forest Resource Management in projects that develop methods for remote sensing of forest data.
